An 82-year-old farmer, Opanyin Abraham Kwaku Adusei from the Eastern Region, has been named the Overall Best National Farmer for 2025 at the 41st National Farmers Day Awards Ceremony in Ho, the Volta Regional capital.

Mr. Adusei, recognised for his decades of dedication, innovation, and excellence in agriculture, emerged ahead of a competitive field of distinguished farmers from across the country.

He received a cash prize in recognition of his contribution to Ghana’s agricultural development.

The first runner-up was 48-year-old Osman Kadiri from the Greater Accra Region, while 63-year-old Charles Gyato from the Oti Region took second runner-up honours.

Madam Grace Owusuaah was named the National Best Female Farmer for 2025. All awardees received cash prizes for their outstanding work in the sector.

President John Dramani Mahama presented the awards, praising the winners for their resilience and commitment to national development.

“These farmers and fishers play a vital role in ensuring food security and driving Ghana’s economy,” he said.

After receiving the award, Mr. Adusei pledged to continue collaborating with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to support the modernisation of the agricultural sector and improve farmers’ livelihoods.

The ceremony formed the central highlight of this year’s National Farmers Day celebrations, which honour the efforts of Ghana’s farming community and their contribution to the nation’s growth.
